Seawolf Dragon Mod Tutorial: Head and Jaw

This part of the guide will assist you creating a custom head/jaw to use with the seawolf dragon avatars. Keep in mind this is only a guide.

You can use any custom head you would like for this tutorial.

What do you need?

  • Safetypin Posestand
  • Seawolf Avatar: Head and Jaw (let's call it the "OLD")
  • Custom Avatar: Head and Jaw (let's call it the "NEW"), and eyes if they are seperate.

Part 1: Setting up

First you should have your safetypin posestand rezzed if it wasn't there already.

  1. Rez a copy fo the OLD head and Jaws
  2. Copy the scripts from the ROOT PRIM of the OLD HEAD/JAW and keep them in your inventory in separate folders.
  3. Delete the OLD head and jaws after copying the scripts.
  4. Rez the NEW head (and eyes if they are not linked to the head already).

Part 3: Assembling the NEW Head/Jaw

The first thing you will want to do is arrange your new face to look proper like you want it to be when finished. Only positioning it, not resizing it or linking/unlinking yet.

It is good to know that since the root prim of the original seawolf head/jaw are the actual face, which has been scripted to animate a bit when you talk, it will actually change the shape of the root prim itself. To prevent that from happening you will want to have the root prim hidden within the head/jaw (create a new prim to be the root if you have to).

Let's get into the details:

Putting together the NEW HEAD

  1.  Create a prim (any shape) and make it small enough to be hidden within your NEW head. This will become the new ROOT PRIM for your custom head.
  2. Be sure that the parts of the NEW head and jaw are all aligned together and positioned like how you will want them to be in the end (best to have the eyes look like they're looking right at you from the front, both of them, else it might make it feel crosseyed/unfocused).
  3. MAKE A BACKUP
  4. Keep all the pieces selected, and then DISABLE SCRIPTS from running, this will usually prevent accidents from happening due to scripts becoming confused.
  5. Time to link the NEW HEAD together: select both the eyes and the head, then last select the prim you created to become the new root (it only matters which object/prim you select last because it will become the root for the newly linked object). Now Link them together!
  6. Now find the scripts you copied from the OLD head in your inventory and put them into your NEW head.

Putting together the NEW JAW

  1. Create a prim (any shape) and make it small enough to be hidden within your NEW JAW. This will become the new ROOT PRIM for your custom jaw.
  2. Select the NEW jaw and then DISABLE SCRIPTS from running, this will usually prevent accidents from happening due to scripts becoming confused.
  3. Time to link the NEW JAW together: select the jaw and the prim you created to be the new root. Now link them together. If you selected the new prim last then it should now be the new root for the jaw.
  4. Now find the scripts you copied from the OLD jaw in your inventory and put them into your NEW jaw.

Testing your NEW head/jaw

  1. This is a good time to test if your head functions before you begin any further adjustments.
  2. Select the NEW head and jaw, REFRESH the scripts within them, and then SET SCRIPTS TO RUN to turn all the scripts back on.
