Seawolf Dragon Mod Tutorial: Extras

This is a bonus notecard, that will help you create a decal/tattoo layer with the seawolf livery system, and it is a bit more advanced, you will need some modding skills.

This notecard is a part of a pack that teaches you how to combine Seawolf Dragon, and Kinzart Night Fury (Midnight/Dawn dragon), to create a feral Night Fury.

As always, work with a copy so you have a BACKUP before you link/unlink, in case something does not go quite like you planned or should have.

YOU WILL NEED:
A Night Fury Prim Tail hip
Some Modding skills (not included)

#BACKUP SAVE:
If you select all the objects of the head together (using SHIFT key to select multiple objects) before linking, and TAKE COPY, you can make a backup of the setup without linking. The icon in the inventory should be a box with a missing piece in it, unlike a single object being a whole box.So when you rez it, you don't have to position them all again. Good as a backup before linking, if something goes wrong or not like you were planning.

So make a backup before linking, to be on the safe notes, its harder to take it apart afterwards. And ALWAYS STOP SCRIPTS FROM RUNNING as some scripts behave different after linking and will mess up things in ways you might not have expected.

#INVISIBLE THINGS:
Some things are invisible or transparent and may be hard to select or even avoid when you cant see them correctly. To enable you to see transparent, simply press CTRL+ALT+T (and again to turn it off).

============STEP1 (create a copy of the prim)============

1. Rez your Night-Fury Prim Tail.

2. You can not copy linked prims, only entire objects or unlinked prims. So you will need to use EDIT LINKED to select only the prim you want to have a decal/tattoo layer on, in this case it will be the tail itself (not the tail fins or anything else linked to it).

3. You will have to copy that prim, and to do that you have to first UNLINK that prim from the rest using CTRL+SHIFT+L, or simply use the UNLINK button in the OBJECT tab of the edit window. Be sure you only got that one prim selected, since having the whole object selected will result in it falling apart.

4. Now make a copy of that prim by selecting it and pull at the movement arrows (position) WHILE holding the SHIFT button. Now you should have a copy of the tail prim.

============STEP2 (adjust the copy-prim)============

The copy prim you created will become the decal/tattoo layer.

1. For this step it is good to apply a transparent texture to the prim (it can have patterns on it if that helps you) then use Ctrl+Alt+T to be able to see transparent objects. If you have no texture, just adjust the transparency level on the prim, under texture.

2. Fit the copy prim so it just barely overlaps the tail, if you can see transparent objects now, this will be easier. By holding CTRL+SHIFT you can stretch and size the prim to adjust it.

It should be big enough that the texture on it will not go through the tail under it, and small enough that you won't obviously notice it being a overlapping layer.

============STEP3 (linking it back together)============

1. When you're done fitting it all, select the tail you unlinked, the copy prim, and LASTLY the hips, then link it together with CTRL+L

2. Name the tail prim 's' (for skin) and the copy-prim 'd' (for decal)

3. REFRESH SCRIPTS, and you are done.
